Last updated : 04 February 2011 By Queens MAD

Despite an awful night over 250 fans packed into Locharbriggs Community Centre in Dumfries to attend the Save Our South Meeting.

The top table consisted of Ross Corbett(Organiser) Bruce McKenzie(West Sound Radio)(Chairman) Jim Thomson(Ex Queens Captain) Russell Brown(MP for Dumfries and Galloway)

Bruce McKenzie addressed the meeting followed by words of support from Russell Brown and also some background by Jim Thomson on his present role at the club. Ross Corbett also gave us a progress report on the fund
raising intentions and then the floor was opened to any further suggestions on the way ahead.

The microphone was passed around and several useful suggestions were voiced as how to raise funds for the club including a proposed tie up with an energy company which would provide Queens with an income. A Sunday Market was also proposed along with Palmy being used as avenue for a Pop Concert. Better advertising of fixtures was proposed including large signs to be placed on the bypass. There were several other contributions from the floor and all were logged and taken on board.

Mr White from Sanquar donated some SOS merchandise and most of it was sold during the evening. Mr Houliston from the Hole in the Wa' donated a hospitality package which was auctioned off for in excess of £200. The Jim Thomson boots raffle was won by Mr McKay who very kindly returned them to the original donor Rab Fae the Toon who was absolutely flabbergasted by the gesture. Several buckets were filled up and more will be sent round Palmerston at the Dundee game tomorrow. The total funds raised during the evening are at present unkown but details will be available via the SOS website and also the Facebook and Twitter pages in due course.

Mr McKenzie ended the meeting and thanked everyone for attending. He also thanked Ross Corbett for his hard work in organsing the Meeting. Special thanks were also made to the other volunteers who helped to set up the meeting.

In all a very constructive meeting which provides a solid platform for us to raise funds to help our club.
