Kenny Brannigan has been given the Queen of the South manager's job on a permanent basis.
Last month he was named interim manager until the summer, after Gordon Chisholm left Palmerston to take over at First Division rivals Dundee.
Brannigan has signed a contract until May 2011 after impressing the board.
Queens chairman David Rae said: "Kenny has had some excellent results and we're delighted he has accepted on a more permanent basis."
Former central defender Brannigan played for 14 clubs including Falkirk, Kilmarnock and Sheffield Wednesday.
He had previous managerial experience with Clydebank and Queen's Park before becoming Chisholm's assistant in 2007.
Brannigan has guided Queens to third in the table, four points behind Dundee, and they edged out Ross County 1-0 on Tuesday, courtesy of William McLaren's goal.
"The boys have probably convinced me to take the job," Brannigan told BBC Scotland.
"It wasn't so much the club, the players wanted to keep me in the game."
