Mixed Fortunes For Queens In Local Friendlies

Last updated : 09 July 2010 By Queens MAD

Queens gave several Youth players and trialists a chance against local opposition Gretna 2008 and Annan Athletic this week.

On Monday evening at Raydale Queens went down 3-2 to Gretna 2008 with Holmes and Reilly scoring for the visitors. The Doonhamers were able to field virtually two different teams in each half and the game had the feel of a training exercise although injuries to Reid,O'Connor and skipper Lilley put a dampner on the evening. The injury to Lilley is of more concern with the skipper expected to be out for six weeks which means he will miss the start of the season. Several of the youth players showed up well and also trialist Johnstone looked impressive.

Wednesday's game against Annan Atheletic at Palmy was a more conventioinal affair with the normal number of substitutes and Queens ran out comfortable winners by 4-1 with Holmes,Reilly,Degnan and Reilly scoring for the Doonhamers. Once again several Youth players took part along with trialists and all showed up well with Johnstone showing his experience.

It's off to Dungannon in Ireland for a friendly on Saturday and it should be a good day out for the supporters as two Travel Club buses are running. Let's hope it's a good game and we stay clear of further injuries.
