Popular Striker Sean O'Connor has signed on for Queens for the rest of the season and hopes to strike fear into most defences in the 1st Division.

After SEAN O'CONNOR visited his surgeon hoping for permission to have a kickabout with his mates - instead he got the green light to relaunch his football career. O'Connor was forced to hang up his boots in May after a series of knee injuries. But, just ten months on, the striker has launched an incredible comeback bid after being given the all-clear to turn out as a trialist for old club Queen of the South - when all he'd hoped for was the go-ahead to play the odd game of five-a-sides.

O'Connor, 28, made sub appearances for Queens in Saturday's defeat to Ayr and Tuesday's draw with Dundee after featuring twice for Annan earlier in the month. He said: "I had a rest from the end of the season last year to November before having the operation. "I went into it thinking that my career was over because the damage to the knee was so bad. But when the surgeon opened it up it wasn't as serious as he first thought.

"When I woke up he told me that it wasn't as bad as I'd been told."That was a huge relief but I still didn't ever think I'd be playing football again. I spent a few months on crutches over Christmas before going to see him again in January. "When I went back to see him I asked if I could start playing again with my mates. Maybe a game of five-a-side, just to get a kickabout for a bit of fun. That was all I was hoping for, but he said to me that he felt I could play again at any level I wanted as long as I do the work building up my muscles. "So me being me took that as a challenge and I've spent the last wee while working hard to get myself fit."Realistically, I didn't think I would be back playing at this level again. But once I started running I've felt better and better so I've just kept pushing it to see how far I go. "It's still just a case of taking it one day at a time."

Sean who is married to the late Billy Houliston's grandaughter Jennifer is a poplular figure around Dumfries and is often seen working out at the DG1 fitness centre in the town. Every blue bloodied Queens fans relishes the thought of Sean back in a blue jersey and who can forget his magnificent goal in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup at Hampden against Aberdeen.

Rumour has it that Queens ex-boss Chisolm tried to lure him to Dens Park but Sean turned him down. We wish Sean every success on his comeback with Queens.
