Positive vision mapped out for DGHP and Queen of the South

Development plans have taken a positive step forward between Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership and Queen of the South Football Club this week.

Board members and officials from both organisations met this week to discuss the next steps for the proposed development at the Palmerston Park site.

A group is being formed to take forward the multi-million pound scheme in more detail and it is hoped the first meeting will be at the start of May.

Proposed plans will include large-scale office accommodation, a 6000-seater stadium, scope for social and commercial opportunities, space for youth development on-site as well as new housing.

The plans will take around three years to complete with the main focus for now being on attractive external funding towards some of the project.

John Potts, chair of DGHP said, "We are very excited about the future for DGHP, our tenants, Queen of the South and the wider community of Dumfries and Galloway.

"Although plans are still in the very early stages, we are extremely pleased to be taking the project forward further and look forward to working in partnership with the football club to provide these new, state-of-the-art facilities."

David Rae, chairman of Queen of the South added, "We have had a very positive meeting with DGHP and are looking forward to further developing plans for everyone.

"As well as giving us a fit-for-purpose SPL compliant stadium with in excess of 6000 seats, the plans proposed here will be of huge benefit to Dumfries and the whole community."
