Iain Davidson's second-half goal kept Dundee a point clear at the top of the Scottish Championship as Queen of the South were beaten at Dens Park.
The midfielder powered home a header from Jim McAlister's free-kick to edge the hosts ahead.
Martin Boyle had earlier threatened with a shot that was saved by Queens goalkeeper Alex Clark.
And Boyle had a chance to double Dundee's lead late on but was again foiled by Clark.
