Queens Mount Promotion Challenge

ALLAN Johnston's stunning double derailed Falkirk's championship charge as Queens emerged as surprise promotion challengers
.

Veteran Johnston netted on 27 and 43 minutes - either side of a stunning lob by Colin McMenamin - as Kenny Brannigan's men floored Falkirk, to leave them nine points off the top.

After Marc Twaddle saw his wind-assisted 35-yard drive dip just over for Falkirk, Queens began to take control, and they went in front when Daniel Carmichael's cross was flicked on by Derek Holmes for Johnston to volley home from 18 yards.

Worse was to follow for Steven Pressley's men as McMenamin's solo run took him past Twaddle before he chipped the advancing Olejnik from 18 yards. Queens a differenncethen made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time as Johnston drilled in his second strike of the day.

Falkirk made more of a fight of it after the break and came close on several occasions but must be wondering if their title challenge is in tatters, while Queens could yet force a serious title challenge.

What a difference a win makes after Tuesday night's disappointment as Queens turned in probably their best performance of the season.

Queen's Mad Man of the Match - It must be Magic Johnston !

Unfortunately Mr Goo was prevented from filming at the Falkirk Stadium but will probably return next week when the Queensa take on the Staggies at Palmy.
