REFEREE ABANDONS SOUTH MATCH

SOUTH of Scotland officials will launch a probe after a match was abandoned at St Mary’s Park, Kirkcudbright.

Referee Colin Saunders called a halt to the St Cuthbert Wanderers v Wigtown cup tie after abuse was shouted at officials in charge of the South League cup tie.

The whistler took the action after calling for a fan to be ejected from the ground.

But club officials at St Cuthberts said they couldn’t throw the fan out because they hadn’t heard what the fan was alleged to have said.
Saints were leading 4-2 in the South League Cup 1st round tie when the match was stopped just on the half time whistle.

Saints secretary James Richardson said; “Someone in the crowd is supposed to have shouted something but the chairman said he didn’t feel he could put anyone out because he didn’t hear what was seaid.
“We feel it is very unfair for the game to be abandoned because I don’t think we did anything wrong.”

The refereee’s report on the game will go to the Southern Counties Football Association and also to the SFA.

At the start of the season a warning was given by the SFA under their new setup that incidents at grounds would be taken very seriously and clubs were expected to follow the rules.
