Former Kilmarnock boss Kenny Shiels has been named as the new manager of Morton following the recent departure of Allan Moore.

The Cappielow club are two points adrift at the bottom of the Scottish Championship going into Saturday's game against Alloa at Recreation Park.

A club statement read: "Kenny Shiels has been appointed as the new Morton manager and takes charge from Monday 16th December 2013. He has been brought in to keep Morton in the Championship.

"David Hopkin will remain as interim manager ahead of tomorrow’s away match against Alloa. Hopkin will continue in his existing role as development manager, where he is doing great work, but will also assist with the first-team training. The club thank David for taking the role of manager during the interim period."
