Stranraer FC is considering a change of venue for next month's visit by Rangers after the club's stadium capacity was halved.

Dumfries Council officials have ruled the capacity of Stair Park should be cut to 3,000 on safety grounds.

One of the venues may be PALMERSTON.

The decision is expected to slash takings at the gate when Rangers visit on 17 August.

But Stranraer is hopeful that new proposals will allow the rest of the stadium to be used.

Following a special meeting, the club said on Twitter: "Club making proposals to SPFL on Tuesday in hope to get full capacity"

Should the capacity remain at 3,000, the fixture is likely to bring in only half the expected £100,000 if the capacity had been maintained at 6,000

There are also concerns on ticket allocation to Stranraer fans who will be vastly outnumbered by Rangers fans. The main stand will be almost taken up by the press, officials and player allocations.

I visited Stair Park recently and it would be a tight squeeze if 6,000 were allowed in.
