Injuries and suspensions hit Queens prior to the big kick-off

Grordon Chisolm
Despite having assembled one of the strongest squads seen at Palmerston for some time,Queens boss Gordon Chisolm is struggling to put a team on the park against St Johnstone in the opening IRN BRU SFL 1 fixture at Dumfries this Saturday.

Thomson,Adams,Laghlan,ONeill and Tosh are all unavailable due to suspensions carried on from last season. Also Queens are struggling to get McFarlane,Dobbie,Harris, McGowan and O'Connor fit for the game against one of the favourites to lift the Division 1 Championship. Saint's astute manager Owen Coyle will have his side as competitive as ever and Queens will have to fight for everything.

Our main problems lie in central defence with the absence of Thomson and Laughlan but if Dobbie and O'Connor don't make it then we will also struggle up front. A lot of responcibility will rest on the shoulders of Aitken and McFarlane which is shaping up to be the central defence pairing if the latter shakes off his injuries. Bingham is bang on form and will have good support from new signing Gilmour but the absence of Tosh and O'Neill is a big blow.

The word on the streets is that most fans will take a draw but there are rumblings from Perth that not all is well there either so it leads up to a fascinating contest with both teams trying to avoid defeat in the first game.

I hope the fans turn out in their thousands and get behind the team and who knows we may take something from the game. My personal view is that we are more than capable of a share of the points but only after another 90 minutes of drama at Palmy.

Queen's Dobbie hopes to be fit for big kick-off
