QUEENS VS HAMILTON PREVIEW...

Last updated : 12 April 2002 By
Queens take on Hamilton tommorow in a game that could see them promoted depending on the Forfar Athletic score. If Queens win and Forfar lose or draw against Clydebank at Cappielow then Queens are heading for Division 1 next year. Even if results did'nt go Queens' way this week they still have to play Forfar next week where they could get promotion but I am sure that everyone associated with the club knows that tommorow's game is the best chance to get
Selection headaches?
it as we are at home. Personally, I feel that Forfar will struggle to beat a Clydebank side who at one point were 11 points clear at the top of the table and were certain to go up. The Bankies' themselves still have a slight chance to go up so they wil be stiff opposition for The Loons. Hamitlon fans will themselves feel annoyed that they are not challenging for a promotion place as expectations have been high at The Ballast Stadium this year but have failed to meet the consistency like Queens or Alloa. However, on their day Accies' are one of the better sides in the league as they proved at the Ballast Stadium earlier this year when they beat us 3-1. It is also a worrying factor that Queens have failed to beat Accies' this year and they have definetly been our bogey team, hopefully this will change on saturday.

The main news for Queens this week is that George O'Boyle is available for
Back in
selection after two months out. You may have noticed this on the "general News" report earlier this week (before the official site posted thsi news i might add!). This will provide Connolly with some major headaches as to who plays up front with Lyle, O'Connor, O'Boyle and Weatherson all fit. "Mr Utility", Paddy Atkinson also returns from injury after three weeks out. This will also give the manager problems as Paddy could either play right back or left back to allow Alan Gray to push up into midfield after Gordon Connelly's poor performance last week. Everyone else is available for selection this week.

Hamilton Danger Men

BRIAN MCPHEE

Brian McPhee is one the best players in the league and arguably Hamilton's best
Main threat
player. Can either play in midfield or up-front he is undoubtably one of the quickest players in the league and will surely cause problems for Thomson and Aitken like he didin the 3-1 game. Likes the ball at his feet where he can run at defenders and could possibly be given a "free-role" by Ally Dawson. John Connolly may have to get someone to do a "man-marking" job on McPhee to prevent him getting a lot of space.

Brian McPhee in a pre-season friendly. Playing for fromer club SPL team livingston against Airdrie.

STUART CALLAGHAN

Impressed Connolly
The midfielder is Hamilton's equivalent to John O'Neill as he also plays the attacking midfielder's role. Like O'Neil has been in the goals this season but obviously is no where near John's tally. Scored twice against us already this season both in the 3-1 game at Hamilton. Was actually approached by Queens earlier in the season but the deal never materialised. Another player who will have to be closely matched by the Queens midfield and defence.
