ALLOA HOLD QUEENS AT THE REC

Weatherson-Glorious Double

This was an exciting yet scrappy match which could have gone either but at the end of the day a draw was just about right. The lack of match practise was fairly obvious as both teams took time to get to grips with the tricky surface. Alloa made all the early running but it was Queens who took the lead against the run of play in the 8th minute when O'Neill rose unmarked to nod home a Mc Laughlan cross. Queens did not hold the lead for long however and conceded a penalty 2 minutes later after Davidson was fouled in the box,Seaton scoring from the spot. Alloa still looked the likelier side and the Queens defence was having a rough time and looked very vulnerable especially from crosses. Alloa had several chances to take the lead until a superb goal from Weatherson in 21 minutes restored Queens lead. O'Neil was the main architect laying on the chance for Weatherson to score. We all thought that Queens would consolidate and perhaps hold on until half-time but they managed to give away another penalty on 42 minutes when Aitken impeded Hamilton. Seaton once again scored with no problems from the spot.

Half-time Alloa 2 Queens 2

The second half was not for the faint hearted as play raged from end to end with chances being scorned by both sides. Queens restored their lead in 62 minutes with another Weatherson special after the Wasps defence were caught dithering. The vociferous travelling support sensed victory as Queens had the chances to put the home side away but it was not to be as the Wasps refused to surrender and were rewarded in 75 minutes when defender Thomson scored from a corner. Alloa went for the kill but the vulnerable Queens rearguard somehow stood firm despite coming under severe pressure at times. Queens can be happy with the draw as the Rec is not a happy hunting ground for any team and this is one more point in our quest for consolidation in Division 1. We are in good shape for the clash with the Dons next Saturday and with O'Neill and Weatherson in this form anything can happen.
