ARABS TOO HOT FOR QUEENS

Dundee United  2  Queen of the South 0 HT: 1-0

Scorers: Dundee United : Safranko 3 Doyle 8 Attendance: 5171

Robbie Neilson celebrated his first home win as Dundee Un/ited extended their unbeaten run to four games by beating Queen of the South.

Pavol Safranko headed in a Fraser Aird cross after three minutes and United dominated for long spells.

Victory was wrapped up when Paul McMullan forced Michael Doyle to overhit a back-pass into his own net.

The win moves United to within four points of second-placed Ross County, with a visit to Dingwall next weekend.

Dundee United manager Robbie Neilson: "Another clean sheet is massive. The key for me was the defence was organised and, when we lost the ball up high, every time it came out we won it.

"For me, that's a really big step. Get the first result at home, a really good performance, and it sets us up for Ross County next week, which is a massive game."

Queen of the South manager Gary Naysmith: "We dug in after giving away a poor goal. Dundee United had the bulk of play and forced us back in the first half.

"With the possession they had, Dundee United probably deserved the win but at no point did I think they were cutting us open."
