BAGAN IS THE STAR AS QUEENS SPANK THE BAIRNS

Queens brought the curtain down on another successful season with an impressive win against a Falkirk side who just could not break down Queens back four in which Reid and Thomson were outstanding. The Doonhamers started off the more hungrier team and very soon the Falkirk defence was under severe pressure. Jaconelli's rampaging style was causing havoc in the Falkirk defence and on 18 minutes the stocky striker latched on to a Bagan cross to put Queens ahead. Falkirk were stung into action but they just could not make any impression on the home defence. The dangerous Gibson was unlucky not to put Queens 2-0 up but his angular drive was defelected for a corner. Queens went in at the interval well worth their lead.

Half-Time Queens 1 Falkirk 0

Falkirk urged on by the large travelling support started to dictate things at the start of the second half but the Queens defence were in a mean mood and held firm. Queens continued to hit the Bairns on the break and make the better chances. Jaconelli should have scored and likewise Paton. Bagan had horrific luck when his tremendous shot crashed off the cross-bar with the Falkirk defence all at sea. Falkirk did have the ball in the net but the referee blew up for a foul on Samson much to the relief of the Palmy faithful who were now beginning to sense that this was their day. As the game approached the final stages the Palmy choir were in full voice along with the screech of the bagpipes. As the referee blew for full-time there were scenes of jubilation as the team did a lap of honour. There was a touching moment when a wee boy in a Celtic top ran on to the pitch to wrap a Queens scarf round Willie Gibson's kneck. Steve Bowey, straight from his hospital bed joined in the fun and was mobbed by the fans. Aitken and Burke were also given a civilised send off which was nice to see. On this performance Queens will more than hold their own next season in Division 1 but it will tough going with the likes of Hamilton and Airdrie moving up.
