Queen of the South cruised into the second round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup with a win at soggy Hampden.

The visitors were ahead inside the first minute when Rocco Quinn slotted home a cool finish. Cheered on by a sizeable travelling support the Doonhamers went for the jugular and veteran winger Barry Wilson chipped home the second and added a a third with thumping volley on 14 minutes.

The game was almost over as a contest at this stage as Queens took their pedal of the gas and the amateurs came more into the game on a tricky surface. the Home team were very unlucky not to grab a goal when an effort came off the post.

There was a huge downfall of rain during the interval and the going became increasingly difficult on an already damaged pitch due to a recent pop concert. The Doonhamers were being pegged back by the eager amateurs and Hutton pulled off a couple of remarkable saves. The nerves were settled however when Paul Burns finished off a flowing attack midway through the second half .

However Queen's Park full-back Barry Douglas struck a deserved late consolation goal.

A comfortable win for the Doonhamers in the end who looked solid in midfield and at the back however their must be some concern that their strikers failed to find the net.

Queens MAD man of the match - Barry Wilson - What a signing the veteran has been - He was a class act and took his goals well.
