DOUR BERWICK STIFLE QUEENS AS TOPLESS STREAKER INVADES PALMY

Last updated : 30 March 2002 By Duke Of Galloway
Berwick Rangers came to Palmy today with a game plan to defend their goal at all costs which they succeeded in doing so at the expense of a frustrated home support who witnessed a dour 90 mins. Queens made the early running and a hopeful lob from McAlpine was easily saved by the visiting keeper. The Berwick defence were taking no prisoners with Lyle in particular being well marked however he almost scored in the 20 min but his shot trundled just wide. Berwick were flooding the midfield and hoping to hit Queens on the break which they nearly did in 25 mins when Wood volleyed over. Chances were few and far bewteen however Lyle should have scored in 39 mins but shot straight at the keeper. O'Neill,Dawson and O'connor were second half substitutes for Queens as the game followed its familiar pattern as the Doonhamers tried to unlock a dour Berwick defence. Chances were made but the best fell to Connolly in the 57th min when his point blank header was saved by the Berwick keeper on the line.
O'neill also blasted over shortly afterwards after Weatherson set him up. The highlight of the day was when a red haired topless beauty invaded the field to tremendous applause from the crowd only to be led away by two sturdy policemen. All this obvioiusly upset the referee who sent off Anderson after advice from the linesman in the 70th minute. The home support were not amused as Queens had to regroup with 10 men for the last 20 minutes. Queens however held out comfortably and the home support went home fairly happy in the knowledge that despite dropping two points we are still clear at the top by five points. All roads lead to Greenock on Tuesday evening !!!!!
