Five Star Queens Thump The Staggies

Queens, lifted by the arrival of on-loan Celtic kid Ryan Conroy turned in an impressive display to put County to the sword.

They made the perfect start with a second-minute opener after catching County cold with a breakaway. Willie McLaren stole the ball before making a swift attack that involved a couple of one-twos with Rocco Quinn. He then played in Quinn who slotted a 20-yard shot beyond the keeper. McLaren could have made it two but was unable to lift the ball over Michael McGovern.

Scorer Quinn limped off with a hamstring injury to be replaced by David Weatherston.

Queens were two in front on 22 minutes after McGovern failed to punch clear from a McLaren cross under pressure by Derek Holmes. The ball fell to Conroy whose first shot came back off the bar but he smashed the rebound into the empty net.

The loss of Quinn and McGuffie was beginiing to take its toll on Queens as County were better after the break. However, Queens with Reid and Harris outstanding held firm although Garry Wood clipped the bar with a chip.

Johnstone and Weatherston had further chances for Queens before McLaren sealed the victory when he raced clear to send an audacious chip over McGovern to send Palmy into raptures.

A very impressive win for Queens even although they lost Quinn and McGuffie to injury and on this form will certainly be in the mix come May.

Queens Man of the Match - Craig Reid - He was simply outstanding and along with Harris held the County at bay in the second half.
