It's Dire Stuff At Wet And Windy Palmy

IN WHAT CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS A DIRE GAME OF FOOTBALL PLAYED IN DREADFUL CONDITIONS QUEENS AND MORTON FOUGHT OUT A GOALESS DRAW

The referee just passed a saturated Palmy pitch playable before kick-off and with the wind at their back Morton had the advantage for the first half. Queens had to defend desperately as Morton put them under some considerable pressure and McLaughlin almost found the net but was denied by the post.

Queens' keeper MacDonald had to save from under his crossbar as the swirling wind almost carried the ball over the line. Queens however hung on and were happy to go in a the interval all square.

Queens with the wind in their favour came more into the game in the second half and with O'Connor causing havoc they looked the likelier side. However both sides were struggling to cope with the dreadful conditions and the game was littered with errors. McQuilken had a great chance to seal it for Queens but his left foot drive was too near Roninson who saved well.

Queens' O'Connor seemed to twist his kneck and was carried off with Stewart coming on but the Greenock side were in the ascendency during the last quarter and only desperate measures prevented a score. MacDonald saved at point blank and Harris cleared off the line.

Over the piece perhaps a draw was the fair result but relegation threatened Morton will feel they should have won missing several good chances in the first half. It must be said that both teams can take credit for even attempting to play football on such a surface. It wasn't the mud that was the problem but the amount of surface water that was lying despite the Queens' ground staff valiant efforts to clear it before kick-off.

It looks like Queens will be without O'Connor and Tosh for Tuesday's game at Livingstone so we will have a sair fecht consolidating our fourth spot.
