A superb dsiaplay by Queen's Willie McLaren helped to dump a tired looking Raith side who are not yet out of the woods as regards relegation.

Queens took the lead after 21 minutes, when Derek Holmes volleyed home a Willie McLaren cross at Palmerston.

The same player set up Paul Burns four minutes later to make it two with a drive from close range.

Rovers never threatened Queens keeper David Hutton and man of the match McLaren rounded off the scoring with a great left-foot strike.

The visitors started in lively fashion but never caused any danger to the home side.

And, midway through the first half, McLaren did well on the right wing and his cross was perfect for Holmes, who volleyed home past goalkeeper David McGurn from eight yards.

Minutes later, in an almost identical move, Rocco Quinn played a great ball wide for McLaren.

He raced down the far side before crossing, this time for Burns, making his 200th appearance for the Dumfries side, and he knocked the ball home from inside the six yard box to give the home side a two-goal interval lead.

McLaren forced a great save from McGurn with a header midway through the second half as Rovers still huffed a puffed.

However, the goal of the game came with 10 minutes remaining.

The in-form McLaren again got the ball on the wing.

This time he cut inside, beating three players before getting the ball on his favoured left foot and firing it high into the top corner.

A comfortable win for Queens which moves us further up the league and a third spot is probable.

Queens MAD man of the match - It has to be Willie McLaren who was in fine form.
