LATE BARROWMAN GOAL GETS QUEENS OUT OF JAIL

Last updated : 18 March 2007 By Duke of Galloway
Andy Barrowman scored his first goal for Queens and secure a valuable point in a dramatic finish to a match which Dundee for long periods looked the likely winners. The alarm bells were ringing from the start as Queens, facing a nasty wind looked very shaky in defence with Henderson in particular struggling to cope with the conditions and Dundee's on-loan striker Daal.

MacDonald had to be alert on several occassions as the Dees carved out several clear-cut chances. It was somewhat against the run of play on 12 minutes when the diminutive Murray found himself clear on the left-hand side to drill a lovely shot into the corner of the net past a bemused Roy in the Dundee goal.

Although a goal up the Doonhamers continued to toil as Dundee made all the running. It was therfore no surprise when Dundee equalised through Daal on 31 minutes after some slack defending by Henderson. Queens continued to struggle until the break and the home support were very relieved to be all square.

With the wind and rain at there backs Queens were expected to force the pace but they still were having problems containing the Dundee attack who continued to probe for another goal. It came on 55 minutes when another tragic error by Murray Henderson allowed Davidson to run clear and pick his spot in the far corner.
Queens manager McCall had to change things and soon Henderson was replaced by Aitken along with Dobbie who made way for Barrowman.

With the introduction of Aitken, the Queens defence tightened up considerably and at long last they started to push up for an equaliser. Murray was starting to create havoc in the Dundee rearguard as he swung over some very dangerous crosses. O'Connor looked to have scored but his header just slipped over. As time run out and as the dejected home support streamed for the exits Barrowman got his head to a Murray cross and the ball squeezed home via a desperate Dundee defender.

Palmy erupted at this good fortune and Barrowman was almost swallowed up by the ecstatic Portland Road end support. Queens will be relieved to have scrambled a point and perhaps they just about deserved it for their late rally. Despite recording a clean sheet in their last four outings, the Queens defence struggled and Laughlan was sadly missed. Henderson looked very vulnerable and was involved in both goals. Saying that several others struggled including Dobbie who was strangely subdued. Anyway with results elsewhere going well for us the Great Escape is still on and we can look forward to next Sunday with some optimism when we face Clyde.

Duke's man of the match - Wee Ruby Murray - The Dundee defence just could not pin him down.
