Lilley Celebrates 100th Appearance As Queens Stroll To Victory

Last updated : 25 October 2009 By Queens MAD

Queen of the South recorded a comfortable First Division victory over Airdrie United at a wet and windy Palmerston.

Queens facing a stiff wind and driving rain opened brightly with Mc Laren having a shot cleared of the line before David Lilley marked his 100th appearance for Queens by opening the scoring in 27th minute.

Stewart Kean extended the home side's lead four minutes later when he converted a rebound shot after Derek Holmes' effort had been saved.

With the the wind at their backs the Doonhamers completely dominated the second half and but for the Airdrie goalkeeper and the atrocious conditions the Doonhamers would have recorded a more handsome victory.

Dennis Wyness completed the scoring with seven minutes remaining, heading home Barry Wilson's cross.

Queens despatched a rather disappointing Airdrie team in a professional manner in rather trying conditions and can look forward with confidence to the visit of Ross County to palmy next week.

Queens MAD man of the match - Gerry McLaughlan - An impressive game from the young defender who is fast becoming a favourtie of the fans with his no nonsense style of play.
