Derek Lyle hit an extra-time winner as Queen of the South moved into the League Cup second round with a dramatic win over nine-man Annan Athletic Iin a pulsating math at Galabank.

Ryan Conroy volleying Queens ahead, a Smart Osadolor header and a Peter Weatherson finish put Annan ahead, but Derek Lyle's strike levelled the tie.

Goals from Weatherson and Dale Hilson took the derby into extra time.

Steven Black was sent off before Lyle's scrambled winner and Rabin Omar's straight red card.

Annan almost pulled off a famous win but indiscipline proved their downfall.

This match gave a young Queens team a thorough examination in preparation for the tougher battles ahead.
