Mercurial Willie Strikes Again

Queen of the South recorded their third consecutive win and eased into third place in Division 1 with a narrow victory over Ross County at Palmerston.

The visitors came close to breaking the deadlock after 31 minutes when David Hutton saved Richard Brittain's shot.

But Queens came roaring back and took the lead on 54 minutes when Joseph Hamill's cross found William McLaren and he slotted home from close range. David Weatherston just failed to kill the game off as his header flew wide.

Iain Vigurs threatened and Stuart Kettlewell's header struck the bar as County failed to find an equaliser.

Queens did well to conjure a win in what was a bruising encounter against a County team who took no prisoners. Hutton,Adams,Holmes and Burns all took knocks in a tousy affair which the referee at times struggled to control.

Queens MAD MAN OF THE MATCH - Marc McCausland - Was immense at the back for Queens as he held the eager County forwards at bay.
