Never Say Die Queens

Queens and the Jags served up a six-goal cracker to maintain their faint title hopes.

Thistle were impressive early on with Martin Grehan and on-form Kris Doolan linking up well.

The opener came on 33 minutes when Grehan capitalised on a miscued pass back by Stephen McKenna and lobbed the stranded keeper.

Five minutes before the break Brian Hodge flicked the ball on for Doolan, who controlled it nicely before rifling beyond David Hutton.

Queens quickly replied when Willie Mclaren played a one-two with Derek Holmes before side-footing home.

Hutton clawed a Grehan point-blank header to safety from a John Robertson cross to keep Queens in the game.

The Jags looked to be out of sight seven minutes from time when Iain Flannigan finished off from Grehan's cross.

However, Queens finished with a bang when McLaren grabbed a late second, volleying home after a sweeping move involving Holmes and Colin McMenamin.

Incredibly, deep in stoppage time Allan Johnston finished on the rebound after the keeper parried a Holmes shot.

Johnston almost stole the points for Queens right at the death but the Thistle keeper saved well at his near post.
