Late Elliot intervention downs Doonhamers

Christie Elliot's late strike gave Partick their first win of the season as they defeated Queen of the South 2-1.

Partick took the lead after 20 minutes when Kris Doolan ran onto Elliot's pass and lashed the ball home from 18 yards.

The away side got an equaliser on the hour mark when Chris Higgins crossed from the right into the path of Mark Campbell, who powered his header home.

They almost snatched the lead two minutes later but Nicky Clark shot wide from 12 yards.

Partick then hit the winner with five minutes remaining when Doolan crossed to Elliot in the area and he rifled home.

The result leaves Queen of the South rooted to the foot of the table.
