A goal ten minutes from time was enough to wrap up the points for a Queen of the South side that had spent most of the game under pressure from Partick Thistle.

The Glasgow side had shown as early as the opening minutes that they were intent on going for victory when keeper Colin Scott was forced to dive across goal to turn a shot from Juan Ramon Escalas round the post.

Queens were seen only in a few breakaway raids as Thistle kept up their drive for goal.

And just before the interval Leigh Hinds did have a great chance when he got sight of goal from just ten yards out but blazed the ball over the bar.

The game deteriorated after the break however with very little constructive play though Thistle still looked the more dangerous and Billy Gibson was unlucky when he blasted in a shot which hit a defender and was cleared.

The Thistle defenders at that stage were having very little trouble in mopping up anything Queens put their way.

And it was Scott again who came to the Dumfries side's rescue when he turned away a shot from Andy McLaren.

Thistle seemed certain to score when Scott was lured from his line but Jim Thomson cleared the goal-bound shot from Emanuel Panther.

After that let-off Queens raced up field to force two corners and from the second David Craig rose above the Thistle defenders to head home.
