Queen of the South lifted themselves off the bottom of the First Division table with their second victory in succession, after ten games without a win.

Manager Ian McCall stressed: "We just have to continue this form to lift ourselves up the table."

The game had a mediocre start with neither keeper really troubled.

But the fireworks came after the break with two free kicks.

The first in 53 minutes when Queens gained their reward just outside the box.

As they lined up for the kick Warren Moon ran over the ball and Graham Weir followed up to crack in a high shot which keeper Craig Samson could only help into the net.

Then in 70 minutes it was again a free-kick that led to the goal.

Willie Gibson out on County's right flank sent the kick high over the defenders and John O'Neill nipped in to head past the helpless keeper.

County boss Scott Leitch was disappointed at leaving the Dumfrees ground with nothing after seeing his squad go three games without defeat.

He said: "The players just didn't get onto their game and I was particularly disappointed at the way we lost the goals."
