QUEENS BAG ANOTHER THREE POINTS AT PAISLEY

Last updated : 20 September 2003 By Duke Of Galloway
Queens continue to prove everyone wrong and fully deserved to grab three points at Love Street but at a cost with the news that Derek Lyle has suffered a broken collar bone and ankle ligament damage. Let's wish Derek a speedy recovery. This however may open the door for some of our fringe players who have been performing well in the reserves. Sean O'Connor opened the scoring for Queens in 36 minutes after an awful defensive boob by the Saints Dunn. It was no surprise when Burke added another just on half-time after a superb Mc Alpine pass. Saints surprisingly pulled one back in first half injury time after the referee awarded a penalty for a shove on Gillies. Gillies made an excellent job of converting the penalty but trhe home side left the field to jeers from the home faithful.

Half-Time St Mirren 1 Queen of the South 2

Queens had several chances to increase their lead in the second half and St Mirren were reduced to ten men after Crilly saw red for a second bookable offence. Once again our failing of not taking our chances reared its ugly head and the imminent loss of Lyle will not help matters. Coates and Jaconelli have been scoring freely in the reserves and perhaps this is their big chance. John O'Neill had little chance to shine against his old club having to leave the field with an injury. JC must be delighted with another three points and we have a chance to consolidate witrh several home games coming up in the next few weeks. Queens can now look forward to Tuesday's cup-tie at Dingwall with confidence.
