Queens Ease Into The Quarter-finals

Queens battled into the Quarter-Finals of the Scottish Cup after a thrilling victory over Greenock Morton in a brusing encounter at Cappielow.

A huge travelling support of over 700 gave the Doonhamers great vocal supporte and were almost rewarded with an early goal but Tosh's effort was cleared off the line. Queens held an early advantage but Morton looked extremely dangerous when moving forward and only a wonderful save by MacDonald prevented old Queens favourite Peter Weatherson from giving the Greenock side the lead. Morton were having a lot of the ball but could make little impression on a stout Queens defence in which Thomson was simply outstanding and the Doonhamers were in confident mood when the first half ended.

Queens started the second-half with a bang when O'Connor got his head to a Harris corner to head the ball into the top corner despite a desperate effort to save by McGurn in the Morton goal. The visiting support were now in full voice as Queens went after the jugular but Morton were still battling away and MacDonald had to be on his toes to keep them out. O'Connor had to be taken off after a goalmouth scramble and Stewart was brought on. Tried as they may Morton could not break down the Queens defence and towards the end gaps started to appear in the Home rearguard. Burns could have had a penalty and Stewart brought off a good save from McGurn. On 86 minutes Queens finish off the 'TON when the impressive McCann broke through and forced NcGurn to parry his shot which Stewart rammed into the net amid scenes sheer joy in the away stand.

This match was anything but a classic however it was a tremendous team effort from Queens who did well to stifle a physical Morton side. We are now in the Quarter-Finals again so here's hoping we can do one better this year and hopefully this afternoon's draw is favourable.

Travel Club Man of the Match - An outstanding team effort but Jim Thomson stood head and shoulders above everyone.
