Queen of the South 3 Dundee United 0  HT: 2-0

Scorers: Queens - Dykes 9 Thomson 31 Murray 77

Lyndon Dykes was at the back post to steer home Dominic Thomas' cross and Joe Thomson extended the lead on the half-hour mark.

Substitute Connor Murray with his first touch lifted the ball over keeper Deniz Mehmet from 30 yards for the third.

Scott McDonald rattled the crossbar late on for United.

And Bilel Mohsni headed over in added time.

The Tangerines will face either Dunfermline or Inverness in the Premiership play-off quarter-final, with the winner progressing to face Livingston and the semi-final winner meeting the Premiership's second bottom side in the final. All play-off ties will be played over two legs.

Post-match reaction

Queen of the South manager Gary Naysmith: "It was an outstanding performance, just what we have been searching for at home all season.

"We have been too inconsistent at home and have never really given a complete performance, but I think it was that today.

"Credit to the lads who have kept going and playing for professional pride, the result gives us an opportunity to finish higher up the table if we can win at Brechin next week."

Dundee United manager Casaba Laszlo: "We are in the play-offs but we need a better performance.

"We could've played on and still not score. We came with confidence after our recent games but the players were tired today after a tough run of games.

"The positives from today are that the sun is shining and Dundee United are in the play-offs."
