Nicky Clark was the hero for Queen of the South as they recorded their fifth straight league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Alloa in a dour struggle at Palmy..

The league leaders made a strong start to the game and had no shortage of early chances. The best of these fell to Clark, whose 20-yard drive was punched to safety by Scott Bain in the Alloa goal in the 10th minute.

Alloa hit back in the second half but the home side defended well and never looked like conceding.

Shortly after re-start, Clark hit his seventh goal of the season to put his side ahead after good work by Reilly.

Alloa pushed for an equaliser, but Clark's goal was enough to seal all three points for The Doonhamers.

This was a deserved victory for Queens over a stuffy Wasps side who competed well put created very little in front of goal.

The Doonhamers head to the Cleyhole next Saurday full of confidence and on current form there should be a few goals for the fans.
