Queens Go Down Again To Bogey Team

QUEENS WENT DOWN TO A HEAVY HOME DEFEAT BY THEIR OLD BOGEY TEAM MORTON IN AN EXTRAORDINARY MATCH AT PALMERSTON

Queens facing into the teeth of a strong wind dominated for the first 20 minutes with Weatherston and Burns missing reasonable chances when on 19 minutes a poor passback by the Queens defence laid on a gift goal for old Palmy favourite Weatherson. The Greenock side seemed to be lifted after this and with panic signals showing in the Palmy defence increased their lead when Weatherson again scored after great work by Jenkins.

Palmy was stunned especially after such a great start and further misfortune followed when a Jenkins long range effort on 37 minutes put Morton 3-0 up as Palmerston held it's breath. It was a shell shocked Queens side that left the field at half-time to a chorus of boos.

Queens with the wind to their advantage came out fighting in the second-half and immediately pulled one back with an O'Connor strike on 49 minutes. It was then everyone to the pumps in the Greenock defence as the Doonhamers laid seige to the Portland End Goal.

Morton goalie Cuthbert and his defenders performed miracles as shots rained in on their goal for most of the second-half. Two efforts by Dobie would have almost burst the net if they had not been deflected over. O'Connor missed from pont blank range and how Queens failed to convert the numerous chances must haunt manager Chisolm. Queen's eventually ran out of ideas and Morton killed the game off with a header by Greacen from a free-kick on 74 minutes.

This was quite an extraordinary game in which Queens will feel lady luck did not shine for them but the 'Ton had their tactics spot on and mastered the tricky wind better. The Queens defence struggled without Thomson,Barr,McGowan and Harris but they will have to regroup as defeat at Dundee next week is unthinkable.

Queen's Man Of the Match - Dobbie - Showed some wonderful touches and deserved more luck in front of goal.
