Queens Hit Five At The Blue Toon

Queens moved into the next round of the Scottish Cup after a comfortable victory over Peterhead at a freezing Balmoor Stadium.

A sizeable contingent of Queens fans made the 5 hour journey to the attractive fishing town and were well looked after by the amiable locals on arrival.

Queens had Paton and Burns back with Aitken alongside Thomson in a solid 4-4-2 formation but struggled to cope with the enthusiastic Peterhead in the early stages. Dobbie however settled Queens down with an oportunist goal on 26 minutes after the home defence dithered about with a pass back which was far too short. Earlier the lively O'Connor had blazed over when it seemed easier to score.

Queens then took a firm control of the game and it was no surprise when O'Connor rammed home a second on 44 minutes after great work by Gilmour. Queens were well worth their interval lead and the frozen crowd had been treated to a good open game of cup-tie football.

Half-Time: Peterhead 0 Queens 2

On 57 minutes O'Connor struck a mortal blow to the Blue Toon's chances when he added a third goal after the impressive Burns set him up. Peterhead tried hard to get back into the game and were rewarded on 78 minutes when they were given a penalty after a rash challenge by Jim Thomson. Kozminski however mad a right pigs ear of the spot kick by smashing it against the woodwork.

Burns and Gilmour however were finding huge holes in the Home Defence and further goals by Dobbie 88 minutes and Burns 90 minutes competed the rout.

This was a comprehensive victory by an impressive Queens team but it has to be said that Peterhead didn't really offer very much. The return of Paton and Burns made a huge defference to Queens with the latter looking very sharp indeed. Queens manager Chisolm will also be having second thoughts about Aitken who slotted well into the back four.

Chisolm will be well advised to play this eleven at Broadwood next week when we face Clyde in a vital fixture.

Queens MAD man of the match: Paul Burns - an immaculate display by the deceptively frail looking player who gives you 90 minutes of hard graft.
