Queen of the South romped into the third round of Co-Operative Cup with a 4-1 win over Forfar.

Queens were on their game from the off and went ahead in the 15th minute when William McLaren struck into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

And their lead was doubled just five minutes later when Robert Harris converted a penalty after Barry Sellars had fouled Allan Johnston.

The hosts continued to press but could not forge further ahead and Forfar almost got back into the game when Ross Campbell inexplicably missed from close range.

Forfar improved after the break and they reduced the arrears just before the hour when Christopher Templeman headed home Ian Campbell's corner.

But any hopes of a comeback were short-lived as Queens restored their two-goal cushion six minutes later thanks to David Weatherston's emphatic finish.

And they put the game to bed when Daniel Carmichael headed home with 15 minutes.

Queens had several chances to further embarrass the visitors but in the end were happy to run out comfortable winner and progress to the next round.

Queens Mad man of the match - Alan Johnston - His superb passing in the midfield was the highlight of the match.
