QUEENS SETTLE FOR A DRAW WITH THE BULLY WEE

Last updated : 26 March 2007 By Duke of Galloway
Queens unbeaten run continued with a hard fought goaless draw against Clyde on a glorious spring Sunday afternoon at Palmy. The Cumbernauld side looked a strong impressive outfit in the first-half and only some dour defending by Queens kept them out. Bryson hit the post after a poor clearance by Queen's Laughlan. Laughlan who had just returned from injury was having difficulty coping with the eager Bully Wee attack but to his credit he stuck to his task and the Doonhamers held out until half-time when to be fair Clyde should have been in the lead.

Queens were a different side in the second half and used what wind there was to their advantage as they started to ask questions of the Clyde defence. O'Connor was starting to have an influence on the game and he was unlucky to be shoved off the ball just as he was about to pull the trigger. There were some half-hearted appeals for a penalty but the referee, who was well up with play, would have none of it.

Queens were now starting to make chances with the dangerous Murray swinging over some inviting crosses. O'Connor came charging through but with Dobbie waiting for a square pass the big man went for glory and shot straight at the Clyde keeper. Minutes later Queens thought they had broken the deadlock when an O'Connor header appeared to be cleared from behind the line by Imrie.

From where I was it did not look a goal but images on the Official Site suggest
it was ver close. Barrowman came on to try and grab a winner but his luck was no
better as his final touch let him down on a couple of occassions. The game ended quietly on a goaless draw despite some late desperate efforts by Queens and a last minute scare when a Clyde effort hit the side netting.
Over the peice a draw was probably the correct result but Queens had several chances in the second-half to steal an umerited win. I can have no complaints about the Queens performance and I think we shaped up quite well against arguably one of the best sides in the league with a great defensive record. Next Saturday's game at Broadwood will be tough but with the usual noisy away support we have every chance of at least a draw.
