They should have been back on level terms after 50 minutes when John O'Neill latched on to a Willie Gibson through ball, but his shot was turned away by Hollis for a corner.
From the corner O'Neill returned the favour as he teed up Gibson 20 yards out, but his shot was again well saved by Hollis.
After 56 minutes the visitors' pressure was rewarded when Sean O'Connor headed a Ryan McStay cross back across the face of goal for Weir to stab the ball home.
Queen of The South pressurised the Airdrie goal for the rest of the game and could have grabbed a late winner as substitute Andy Thomson saw his header go just past the post.
DUKE'S VERDICT - Queens refused to buckle after a poor first half and fought back to gain a deserved share of the points. The Doonhamers could have easily secured three points in the closing stages but for some excellent saves by the home keeper Hollis.
DUKE'S MAN OF THE MATCH - Some excellent performances from Thomson,Lovell and Gibson but Andy Aitken never put a foot wrong and gets my vote.
