An early goal from Andy Dowie was enough to give Queen of the South a valuable away victory against Alloa.

The Doonhamers defender headed in a Chris Mitchell cross on 17 minutes for his second goal of the season.

Visiting keeper Alex Clark saved well from Ryan McCord but Alloa offered little in attack.

Iain Russell sent a good chance wide for Queens and the same player saw his header kept out by home goalkeeper Scott Bain.

A scrappy affair at the rec but three valuable points for Queens as they close in on a play-off place.
