Queens Thump The Bairns

A wonderful victory for John Connolly's wonders as they destroyed promotion contenders Falkirk with an exciting display of attacking football and great teamwork. The Bairns had no answer to the battling Doonhamers in which their skipper Bowey lead from the front. Falkirk kicked off on a cold afternoon in front of over 4,000 fans and very soon found out that they had a battle on their hands. The Queens defence were in no mood to be intimidated by the big Falkirk forwards and very soon Queen's Paton and Burns started to find gaps in the Falikirk defence where Ferguson in goal looked very hesitant at times. O'Connor and Wood were also proving to be a hot handful for the giant James in the visitors defence. The first chance fell to Queens Bowey as he ran clear only to see his shot slip past Ferguson's far post. At the other end Falkirk almost snatched the lead as a lob beat Queens keeper Dodds but crashed off the bar much to the relief of the Palmy support. By this time the bagpipes had struck up on the Glasgow Street terracing to create a unique atmospehere. Queens were really getting stuck in and beginning to cause havoc in the Bairns rearguard. O'Connor missed from point blank range and the same player hit the side netting shortly afterwards when it looked easier to score. The half ended with Falkirk perhaps fortunate to be still on level terms.

Half-Time Queens 0 Falkirk 0

Falkirk started the second half well and seemed to change their tactics by hoising high balls into the Queens defence but Reid and Thomson reigned supreme and Queens looked extremely dangerous on the break with O'Coinnor 's physical presence a constant threat. With the Bairns pushing up O'Connor broke clear on 49 minutes and buried his shot behind Ferguson to put Queens one up. Falkirk were shell-shocked as Queens treally had a go at them with the superb Paton almost running riot on the right side. Bowey had the chance to bury Falkirk when he ran clean through the Bairns defence, superbly rounded Ferguson and casually rolled the ball towards an empty net but to the horror of the Queens faithful there wasn't enough pace on the ball and a Falkirk defender appeared from nowehere to scramble clear and a wonderful chance was lost.. However all was forgiven on 67 minutes when a superb Paton cross was met first time by Wood and the ball exploded into the Falikirk net to send the Glasgow Steet end into raptures. Falkirk were stung and flung everything at Queens in the last 20 minutes but the Doonhmares defence superbly organised by Reid and Thomson held firm. Dodds in the Queens goal also played his part and looked very safe indeed. The nearest the Bairns came to scoring was a curling Latapy free-kick which just cleared the bar. Towards the end Falkirk's frustration grew and unfortunately Hughes was sent off after a clash with Wood. Queens simply just didn't have a failure and superb fitness and teamwork won the day against a big powerful side who may still yet end up as Champions. Next week should be another cracker at Ayr and who would bet against Queens on this form.
