TANMAN SINGS IN THE RAIN

Queens produced one of their best performances of the season to overcome a disappointing Dingwall team who now look like relegation candidates. Queens dominated the early exchanges on a tricky surface with Paton,Burns and Gibson all looking in the mood. Burns was put through with a lovely pass by Paton and was unlucky when his drive struck the inside of the far post an rebounded clear with Stewart in the County goal stranded. County looked pretty lifeless at this stage with ex Queens favourite Burke the only threat. Lyle was beginning to cause problems in the County defence with his strong running and this brought about the opening goal. Two defenders went for the same ball and collided allowing the tanman to pick up the peices and put Queens one up on 28 minutes. This livened up the subdued Palmy faithful who were obviously suffering from Xmas shopping syndrome. Little was heard however from the meagre County support who sat glum faced expecting the inevitable. County seemed ill at ease with the greasy surface as Gibson started to repeatedly carve them open. Queens however lacked punch inside the box and failed to add to their goal tally. Ex Queens favourite Burke reminded Queens that the game was far from over as he skinned Thomson at the edge of the box and delightfully chipped Scott but the ball slipped narrowly past when it looked easier to score. Throughout the first half Queens had played some lovely football with little reward and were well worth their interval lead.

Bowey-Back
to his best
Queens back four were giving nothing away. Craig in particular was having a magnificent game and took some of the pressure of Thomson who simply strolled through the game. County had plenty of possession but most of their attacks broke down on the edge of the box. Queens on the other hand looked like scoring at every attack with Burns and Gibson causing havoc. However despite some heroic running by Lyle, the Doonhamers just could not find the killer goal dsespite Gibson and Paton going close. There was one incident of drama in the final minute when Gibson skinned three County defenders but was sent flying as he was about to shoot for goal. With Queens fans screaming for a penalty the referee calmly waved play on and booked OOR WULLIE for mouthing off. Queens won comfortably in the end but as they ran off to the strains of SINGING IN THE RAIN belting out from the tannoy, the fans were happy to hear the final whistle. This was a solid all round performance from Queens but the fans were kept hanging on until the end. One can argue that this system of only one man up will continue to produce results like this but with us sitting nicely in fourth place I wont hear rmany fans complaining. Queens looked a solid outfit today with David Craig outstanding and what a signing he has turned out to be. Bowey looked more like his old self and had ample support from Bagan. Burns looks like he has recovered from his injury and Gibson with his refurbished blonde hair led the County defence a merry dance. I think we may give Falkirk problems next week. I can't wait.
