BOWSER SAYS FAREWELL

Last updated : 22 May 2006 By Duke of Galloway
Practically every Queen of the South fan was sorry to learn of the departure of Steve Bowey. For over four years at Palmerston 'Bowser' was an inspirational member of the squad and a huge favourite with the supporters. In an emotional message to all Queens' fans he said, "Throughout my time at Palmerston you have been immense and I've really appreciated the support you have given me. I couldn't have wished for better and I'll miss you all a lot. It was a wrench to leave and I don't mind admitting that there was a tear in my eye when I walked out the door as a player for the last time.

"I have many great memories from the time I spent at Queens and plenty of 'highs'--winning the Second Division Championship, lifting the Challenge Cup and being voted 'Player of the Year' two seasons running are just a few. One of my funniest moments was up at Brechin a few weeks ago when we secured our First Division place for another season. Most of the fans were in fancy dress and I'll never forget the guys with the 'Bowser' masks. Brilliant!

"Although sad and disappointed, I leave with no hard feelings, for everyone at the club has been great and I wish Queens all the best for the future. Football's a funny old game and it's now time for me to move on. I've no immediate plans at present but I fly off to Ibiza today for a holiday in the sun and a bit of relaxation. It will give me an opportunity to contemplate my future and I'll decide what I'm going to do on my return".

And in his final statement he stressed, "Queens are the best club I've played for so I can only say to you, the fans, keep supporting them--they're your local club--or else, 'Bowser's gonna get you'!"
