QUEENS ENJOY EVENING STROLL IN PENRITH

Last updated : 17 July 2003 By Duke Of Galloway
Queens had no bother overcoming a pretty ordinary Penrith side who offered only token resistance. Queens took control straight from the kick-off and urged on by a sizeable away support bombarded the home goal. Lyle looked in the mood and latched on to a Hodge pass early on to put Queens 1-0 up. The same player made it 2-0 after the home keeper had spilled a shot. Queens although not looking that great were steets ahead of the locals although Penrith managed to claw one back before half-time. Queens should have been out of sight by the interval but somehow Penrith were still in the game. The highlights of the first half were Lyle's sharpness and some telling passes by Hodge.

Half-time Penrith 1 Queens 2

As expected there were several changes to Queens line-up with at least a couple of players coming on TWICE as subs. Paton and Coates added further goals as Queens strolled through the second half. There should have been several further goals but some wild shooting by the Queens put paid to that. One effort by Burke from about 4 yards nearly landed on the M6. These are early days but I feel that several players are in need of match practise. As usual the defence looked formidable with Dodds,Thomson,Aitken and Allen in good form. Paton looked good along with Pagan and Gibson is improving with every game. Several others including Burke are struggling to find their feet but they will have plenty of opportunity to do just that against Morecombe on Saturday where the opposition is certain to be more formidable then provided here by Penrith.
