QUEENS HOPING FOR CUP GLORY

Last updated : 06 February 2004 By Duke Of Galloway
Hundreds of Queens fans will be heading up the M74 tomorrow to cheer on their heroes against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup. Queens certainly have a date with destiny in what should be a real cup-tie in the true sense of the word. Forget about form, injuries to key defenders etc. this is the cup, anything can happen and Queens have every chance of causing an upset. Motherwell under the shrewd helm of boss Terry Buthcher are giving youth their chance and Queens run the risk of being overrun by the carefree style of the 'Well and no doubt the Fir Park side have been well informed on Queens defensive problems and will hope to exploit this. Reid is hoping to be ready to come back as anchor man in the Queens defence along with Aitken. Thomson is still out and the Big Man must be gutted at having to miss out on this one. We have the players to really hurt Motherwell with O'Connor,Burke and Wood but we must put away any chances that come our way as you rarely get a second chance against premier league teams. It is worth remembering that the 'Well have failed to find the net in their last eight league games but of course they had an impressive win against St Johnstone in the last round at Perth. Rumblings from Motherwell indicate they are not taking us lightly and I suspect we will come under severe pressure from the start so it's vital we don't give away sloppy goals early on like against Hibs recently. The Queens team trained indoors on Wednesday at the Loreburne Hall due to the appalling weather but John Connolly says the team will be up for it and I've a feeling they won't let the hundreds of fans down. It should be cracker of a game with a tremendous atmosphere and I expect Queens to push Motherwell all the way and perhaps take them to a replay at Palmerston. As usual Queens will get tremendous vocal backing from some of the most passionate fans in Scotland and this in the end this may be the deciding factor. Let's enjoy our day, have respect for our hosts and don't let the club down in victory or defeat.

LET'S ENJOY OUR DAY AND HOPE THE BEST TEAM WINS. REMEMBER TO SHOW RESPECT FOR OUR HOSTS AND DON'T LET THE CLUB DOWN EITHER IN VICTORY OR DEFEAT.
